One of the first projects we tackled in our new house was adding picture ledges in our living room. We got these awesome (and cheap) ledges from Ikea. They were easy to put up and look great. Now I had to get pictures and frames to put on them. After taking a look at Michaels and a couple of other stores I realized how expensive frames are! When you normally just have to get one at a time it’s not bad, but when you need a bunch, like I did, it really adds up! So, I came up with the brilliant idea of checking out the Dollar Store and it did not disappoint! Ok, so they aren’t the best quality, but they look just fine and they will just be sitting on the ledge so they don’t have to withstand a lot of wear and tear. They come in different sizes and styles too, which really looks good on the ledge.
Ok, now that I had my frames, I needed things to fill them with! I had a few free prints from our wedding photographer already laying around, so I put some of those in first. I printed a couple other pictures out and added those too. Next, I wanted to find cute (and free) prints that I could add that I could also change out with each season. All it took was a little searching on good ol’ Pinterest and I was in luck. I also made my own little print in Microsoft Word by just typing my last name and adding some cute little wheat looking things to make it look Autumn-y.
After I got everything printed out and in frames, it was just a matter of arranging everything on the shelves. I found the best method was trying to make triangles between the top edges of every two touching frames. And that was it! I am really happy with the result and can’t wait to switch out my Autumn prints for Christmas ones in the near future.
