Flamingo First Birthday
My baby girl is one and I can’t wait to share her Flamingo First Birthday Party! Well, actually she is 14 months and this post is long overdue! I’ve just been so busy trying to keep up with my rambunctious, spirited girl and also maybe sobbing because I can’t believe just how big she is now..just kidding…well maybe half-kidding.
Flamingoes have been a theme with our sweet girl since before she was born. I got a cute flamingo stuffed animal for her room while I was pregnant and we started taking her monthly pictures with it once she arrived. So, it just seemed fitting (and so fun!) to make her first birthday flamingo themed. Even though we didn’t want to go overboard and just invited family, I knew I wanted to make it special with lots of little handmade touches and I loved the end result. I can’t wait to show her pictures one day!
For her smash cake, I found a recipe on Pinterest for an unsweetened cake then used a large circular cookie cutter to make the two layers. I made my famous homemade buttercream frosting to stick the layers together and frost the outside. The little pennant cake topper is made out of felt and wooden skewers. I absolutely love how it turned out!
For the other desserts, I made rice krispy treats and cupcakes. As you can see, the majority of the cupcakes are frosted with pink frosting and topped with cute little paper flamingos. I actually made two dozen cupcakes with fondant flamingo toppers, which you can see in the far right of the picture. Unfortunately, there were only a handful of these that survived. I am a total fondant novice but I was pretty impressed with how they turned out! Unfortunately, I left the finished products too close to the oven that was still warm and when I went to set them out then next day for the party, most had melted and were scary mutant flamingos. Oh well, lesson learned and at least a few survived!
As a fun keepsake, we had everyone sign this sweet picture book, Flora and the Flamingo. It was so fun reading the sweet messages everyone left and it will be such a sweet way for Easton to see just how loved she is!
I just love the highchair banner I made! It was so cute and girly. I also made the little felt birthday crown and it looked so cute on her! Even if she wasn’t a fan!
Not surprisingly, she did not want to eat the cake! She did the same thing at her one year pictures. She just recently started really getting into food! We knew it would happen eventually.
I also made this little DIY photo booth. I hung streamers and created some fun props to go with it!
We had such a fun time celebrating Easton’s Flamingo First Birthday! I still can’t believe my baby girl is 1! She is learning and growing every day and I am trying so hard to soak up every little thing! It’s true what they say, babies don’t keep!
