We’ve been in our house for 10 months now! I can’t believe it. It has seriously flown by and it feels like just yesterday that we were closing on our house on a freezing day at the end of February. Fast forward and now we are married, have a dog and have been here almost a year! We are very slowly getting things done. I feel like when you hear that someone is moving into a new construction home you think, “Oh, they have it easy! They don’t have to do any work!” I was one of those people…until we moved into a new construction home and realized that you have to do twice as much to make your home personalized and cozy and not boring.
Before the letters. Seems like Lucy is always on our bed…
One of the rooms that has been our main focus has been the master bedroom. My vision from the start was that it was going to be super cozy and relaxed, lots of beige and neutrals with silver accents. I made progress this summer when I DIYed our tufted headboard out of some plywood, a drop cloth and lots of tutorials. It turned out great and I was really proud! Then I had to figure out what to put above it. We wanted something unique and I decided that I wanted galvanized metal letters. Then I looked them up online and found out they were more than I was willing to pay. My solution: spray paint some of those 8″ paper mache letters with metallic silver spray paint and stick them on up there. What do you think? Can you tell they aren’t really metal?
Seriously. Is this her bed or ours?
It turned out better than I expected and was so easy and cheap. Like less then $20 for everything. All I did was spray paint about 2 thin coats of a metallic silver by Rustoleum on all sides of the letters, let them dry well then used removable mounting squares to stick them up. Now I’m already planning a variation of the same project for the kitchen 🙂
