Why You Need to Get Professional Pictures Taken with Your Babies

Why You Need Professional Pictures With Your Babies

I’ve never been one to love getting pictures taken.  Like a lot of people, I can be self-conscious and am the first one to find a reason why any picture taken of me isn’t good. It’s no surprise that this didn’t change after having Easton.  If anything, it became worse.  The circles under my eyes these days are darker than ever and there’s always a 50/50 chance that I haven’t washed my hair in a few days, cause ya know…mom life.  Both mine and my husband’s phone storage is now practically non-existent because of the hundreds of pictures we each have of our beautiful baby girl.  Want to guess how many of them have me in them?  Maybe 10 or so. And I’m not looking at the camera in most of them.  When I realized this, it made me sad.  Easton will look back on these pictures one day and want to see her mom in the picture with her, and I will too.

I mentioned to my husband how upset I was that we didn’t have many good pictures of Easton and I together.  So, he made a genius move that scored him allll the new dad brownie points in my book.  For my first Mother’s Day, he got me a Mommy and Me photo session with an AMAZING local photographer! (Mel Kay)  I was so excited to finally be able to get some pictures with me in front of the camera with my girl and I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out.  Not only were the pictures absolutely gorgeous, it was so much fun getting them taken!  Since I’m typically the one behind the camera, it was so great to just be able to relax and have fun with Easton and let someone else do all the picture taking (and editing!)

I told my husband that professional pictures of Easton and I is what I want for every Mother’s Day now. I don’t need “stuff,” I just want to capture memories with my baby girl so that years from now we can look back on them together. Believe me when I say it will 100 percent be worth the money you spend on it! I am definitely not one to spend money on unnecessary things, but you can’t put a price on having precious moments captured with your babies that you will be able to have forever. If you are hesitant about getting in front of the camera, don’t worry!  Photographers are experts at making people good and will work their editing magic to make you look like a million bucks. The fact that Mel Kay was able to give me so many pictures of myself that I can’t find a thing to complain about is seriously a miracle!  So, just pick out an outfit that you feel great in, spend some time doing your hair and make-up and they will do the rest. I promise you, you will not regret it!

A Few Tips

  • Ask your friends for suggestions of great photographers in your area and stalk their Facebook pages and websites.  Pick someone whose picture taking and editing style you love. If you are local to the Frederick, MD area, I HIGHLY recommend Mel Kay Photography.  She is the sweetest and does an amazing job!
  • Trying to save money?  A lot of photographers offer mini-sessions at a reduced rate from time to time, so sign-up for their newsletter or like their Facebook page so you can find out when they do!
  • Spend some time on Pinterest finding inspiration for what to wear, poses you want to do, etc.
  • Take time to do your hair and make-up and pick out something to wear that you feel good in.  It will help you feel confident and make for amazing pictures.

Again, thank you SO much to Mel Kay Photography!  I am still in awe of how talented she is!

Ok, enjoy the rest of these pictures from mine and Easton’s photo session.  If you’re not convinced why you need to get professional pictures taken with your babies, maybe this will help!
